More Than Print: The Techniques That Give Metal Packaging Character
When we think of tin packaging, we usually picture a simple print — a logo, some colours, maybe a product photo. But that’s really just the starting point. At NASS Studio, we’ve spent years showing brands that a metal can or box can be far more than a surface for graphics — it can become an object people want to pick up, turn over in their hands, and keep on the shelf a little longer instead of setting aside after a single glance.
Here are the finishing techniques we most often combine when designing packaging for our clients.
Print That Comes Alive on Metal
The foundation is precise CMYK + white printing, with the option to add Pantone colours wherever exact brand-colour matching matters. A white base coat under colourful graphics keeps colours behaving on metal the way they would on paper — without it, colours can shift in ways a designer wouldn’t expect. It’s a detail few people think about, yet it’s what separates a polished result from an accidental one.
Embossing: A Touch That Stays With You
Embossing turns a flat graphic into a texture you can feel under your fingers. A raised logo or pattern builds an impression of craftsmanship and keeps a product in a customer’s memory longer — because they want to touch it again.
Holograms and Cut-Out Windows
For brands that want to catch the eye or signal a limited edition, we offer holographic effects and cut-outs with transparent fill — small „windows” that reveal the inside of the packaging or a contrasting material underneath. It’s a technique that works especially well for seasonal and special-edition runs.
Matte vs. Gloss
Pairing matte and gloss varnish on the same surface guides the viewer’s eye and highlights chosen elements of a design without adding colour. It’s a subtle technique that often makes the biggest impression — precisely because it doesn’t shout.
Closures, Handles, and Functional Details
A package’s character isn’t only in the surface graphics. The type of closure, a handle, a zip fastening, or a decorative bow all shape how packaging opens, is carried, and is remembered. At NASS Studio, we treat these elements as part of the design from the very start, not an afterthought.
Why It All Matters
Packaging is often a customer’s first physical contact with a brand — before a product is even opened, it’s being judged in the hand. Our approach has long rested on the belief that even a material as classic as tin can be designed to tell a brand’s story and stand out on a crowded shelf.
